Due to the iron and steel industry being the pillar industry of nationaleconomy,steelmaking plant,which is a significant nwork site and is constructed withsteel structure,belongs to B fortification building i seismic codes.Given the requirements of process layout and production facility,steelmaking plant tends tobe irregular buildings with high non-uniformity in mass and stiffness.So the stability of structures is of great importance,which concerns a safe production process of the steel making.With the concept deepening of national codes and constant specificity of design concept,higher and tighter requirements have been proposed to irregular buildings with high non-uniformity in mass and stiffness.These structures,designed in1970 s and put into production for over 40 years,were equipped with extremely heavy crane and under took several reconstructions.All these were badly not in accordance with relevant codes.So analysis and acquisition of structure properties require immediatesolution.This paper focused on the steelmaking plant,and its three-dimensional finite element model has been made with SAP2000 according to its structure layout and features.A full grasp of properties of large irregular steel structures has been reached based on the analysis of dynamic response,wind resistance,linear static analysis under temperature load,bearing capacity analysis of members and over all stability analysis of linear bucking.Based on our national codes,seismic design respons espectrum and modified plastic hinge were brought into the push-over analysis ofthe structure,and assessment has been made for the elastic-plastic seismic propertiesof the structure.According to the stability problem arisen from the analysis andbased on the rigid column model of non-perfect spring hinge-brace staff,traditional supposition has been promoted to frame-brace structure.Determining factors likethe component geometry slenderness ratios,yielding strength of materials,stiffness ratio of beam to column and load,building steel frame-brace structures by controlling one variable under certains cope,finding the relation between the factors and supposed horizontal force,analyzing error between the top lateral displacement and internal force by computation,summarizing the simplified spring model of support-frame and formulation of supposed lateral force,thus,simple and effective computation method were utilized to deal with the engineering design no concentrically braced frames.
