With the development of vehicle technology,more and more autonomous vehicles will appear on street,and some automated vehicles have begun to drive on highways.It can be expected that the market share of automated vehicles will increase gradually in future,which will highly impact on the traffic flow characteristics.Therefore,it is necessary to investigate the new characteristics of the mixed traffic flow of manual and automated vehicles.Aiming at studying the traffic flow characteristics of automated and manual vehicles,and putting the cellular automata into the traffic field,this paper proposed three traffic flow cellular automata models in single-lane,two-lane and vehicle platoon.Then,the model is simulated by Matlab software,and the characteristics of manual and automated vehicles traffic flow in three kinds of traffic environment are studied deeply and numerical analysis.This paper improves the NS cellular automata model by taking into account the Gipps safe distance algorithm.This paper focuses on the mixed traffic flow of automated and manual vehicles.The study improves the existing Cellular Automata model to capture the feature difference between the manual vehicle and the automated vehicle,and measured the model the relevant parameters using the NGSIM data value.The two-lane manual and automated traffic flow model is based on single lane model extended the single-lane CA model to a two-lane model by introducing a set of rules of lane-changing.The two lane manual and automated platoon model is established on the basis of the two lane model extended a vehicle to a number of vehicles,and formulated the vehicle combination rules.The traffic flow mixed by automated and manual vehicles are studied using numerical simulation method,and several conclusions are drawn.In single lane,the highway capacity can be dramatically increased,up to twice of the original capacity value,and also found that the proportion of the autonomous vehicles in traffic has significant impact on the road capacity and traffic congestion.In two-lane,with the increment of the proportion of the automated vehicles,the traffic capacity of the road gradually increases,and the average speed of the traffic flow increases.When the density is 15veh/km<?<55veh/km,adding 20%automated vehicles to the traffic flow consisting only manual vehicles can decrease congestion up to 16.7%.In the two lane platoon environment,the traffic flow decreases with the increase of the number of the vehicle platoons at different densities.At the density of 120 veh/km,the system flow rate is up to 16000 veh/km·h,and the average speed of the system is gradually reduced.
