In the paper, the author thinks that scale is an important constituent part in garden art. The main research task aims at discussing the quantitative scale relationship with garden elements, hoping to explore one more approach to explain garden art and to propose one more method for garden design. The paper can be mainly divided into 8 chapters, including 1. Introduction; 2.Discussion on garden space and scale; 3.Discussion on spatial structure in Lingering Garden; 4.Discussion on components in Lingering Garden; 5.Discussion on landscape space and spatial feelings in Lingering Garden; 6.Discussion on disposal of spatial scale in Linger Garden; 7. Design practice-scale application of landscape design in Luoyang Garden; 8. Conclusion and prospect. With field measurement, literature inquiry and questionnaire, the author acquires relevant data, applies a method combining theory with the experiment to discuss scale of components in Linger Garden, spatial scale in key scenic spots and multi-spatial scale changes, and finally obtains the following conclusion:1. For building effects in a garden, it is crucial for scale to display "artistic conception" combining the nature and humanity;2. With the vertical angle of 20°-24° and horizon of 60-70°, massif realizes an opening and bright effect. With the vertical angle of 45°-60° and horizon of being more than 70°, massif realizes multiple ranges of hills and towering effects.3. Landscape proportion can be controlled between 1:3 and 1:4. The proportion between width of a pool and mountain height can be controlled between 1:4 and 1:5;4.The proportion of overall height and width of buildings is about 1:5. With vertical angle of 20°-24°, the horizon can be controlled about 70°. Visitors can feel zigzagging and towering. The viewing point should apply 10° of vertical angle. Horizon can be controlled between 40°-45°, forming row upon row of buildings.5. The scenic spots should apply 60°and 120°of horizon control. Buildings and plants divide scenes in longitudinal arrangement to realize definition of landscape themes, diversity of scenic composition and integrality of overall arrangement.6. In order to increase far-reaching sense of landscape, the horizon range of close shot and medium shot is 10m-13m and 20m-25m, respectively. Based on scenery volume, horizon range of long shot should be greater than 50m.Due to complexity of a garden and time variation, studies are limited to some extent, but the role of a quantitative method on cognizing and explaining garden art and garden design is proved to some extent.
