Fundamental Study On The Distribution And Essential Elements Of Chinese Gardens

As the typical illustration of “man-made nature” and the important tangible cultural heritage of human beings,traditional Chinese Gardens are the manifestation of respecting and yearning toward nature.In today's academic domain,the research in regards to traditional Chinese Gardens is being carried on continuously.Especially the exploration in terms of architecture methodology that is implicated by traditional Chinese Garden's spatial structure—this is the research purpose and starting point of the paper.The paper is a relatively overall fundamental study on distribution and essential composing elements of Chinese gardens.The author combined data collection and field research to accomplish the study on the basis of analyzing related academic achievements of former researchers.First,the paper is an overall analysis on the distribution and historical context of Chinese Gardens,by analyzing the academic achievements of predecessors;collecting field data of the Gardens during field research and redrawing the plans of Chinese Gardens according to the collected information.Second,combining the garden plans drawn by the writer,this paper analyzes the graphic elements of Chinese Gardens' plans,which include gardens' external walls,buildings,ponds,corridors and bridges.The author finds out the generality and peculiarity of graphic elements of Chinese Gardens that are located in different regions and built in different years.Finally,the paper reveals the analysis of the characteristic architectural elements of Chinese Gardens,such as corridors,pavilions,tunnel portals,perforated windows,bridges,partitions and pavements.By using the data achieved in field research,this paper shows the generality and peculiarity of graphic elements of Chinese Gardens that are located in different regions and built in different years.This paper sums up the characteristics of essential composing elements of Chinese Gardens in different regions and years by a series of sorting and analysis,.Specifically,due to the lack of information collection on extant Chinese Gardens 'rockery and vegetation,this paper casts the sight on the elements of Chinese Gardens 'architecture related areas.The rockery and vegetation' s influence on Chinese Gardens 'composing pattern of space are going to be discussed in the future research.
