Research On Architectural Color In The Historical District

Historical block is the indicator of the city history development. It is an indispensable part as it carries the traditional culture for the city. However, the architectural color of these historical block has been overlooked for a longtime although it is quite easy to be perceived. This paper is aim to provide a research reference to both architectural design and planning field through a systematic investigation and analysis of architectural color applied for historical street.The paper chooses architectural color in the historical district as the research object, and Nanchang Street in Wuxi after restoration as the selected case study. Based on Munsell color system, the research methodology such as literature review, field study and analysis, comparative analysis is operated for the investigation of Nanchang Street. The purpose is to have a detailed exploration about the characteristics and master plan of Nanchang Street, and to discuss the historical authenticity of Nanchang Street after restoration from the perspective of architecture color. Eventually, according to the specific circumstances of Nanchang Street, the paper proposes some suggestions and planning scheme.This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter mainly defines the research scope, the research significance and content. The second chapter provide review about current research domestically and internationally. The third chapter uses Nanchang Street as an example by looking at from its own characteristics and overall planning strategy respectively. The fourth chapter analyzes the reason of making the present architectural color pattern and conduct a detailed research in term of its color characteristics and overall planning strategy. In addition, the fourth chapter also discuss the historical authenticity of Nanchang Street according to the contrast of architecture color before and after the restoration. The final chapter evaluates the architectural color of Nanchang Street, and puts forward some suggestions for the color planning of the block.
