A Study Of Perceived Waiting Time In Mobile Application Interaction

In recent years,mobile internet growing up quickly.However,because of the constrains of the network bandwidth and hardware performance,waiting has been a common phenomenon when we using the mobile applications.According to the related research,user’s satisfaction and evaluation of whole product and service will be effected by the feeling during waiting.However,as the development of user experience and user interface design,more and more researchers and designers start to pay attention on motion design.This paper focus on the research of the influence of perceived waiting time that caused by motion design of mobile loading interface.Firstly,based on cognitive absorption theory and resource allocation theory,cognitive absorption is divided into three dimensions:focused immersion,temporal dissociation,heightened enjoyment.These are the perquisite factors of subjective waiting time.Users’ satisfaction is the result of it.Then,a hypothetic rational model has been made.Using 5 point likert scale to measure the influence of dynamic elements and status elements,correlation,speed,type to the cognitive absorption.Then the in-depth analysis based on the third part data verifies the relationship between the cognitive absorption,subjective waiting time and users’ satisfaction.The research shows:during information loading,dynamic elements is superior to the status elements in cognitive absorption.Correlation,speed and type have significant influence to cognitive absorption,among them,using closely related,fast speed animation + animation progress bar has great advantage.Each dimensions of cognitive absorption,subjective waiting time and user satisfaction are negatively related to each other.Focused immersion and temporal dissociation influence users’ satisfaction through part of subjective waiting time.Whereas heightened enjoyment directly affects users’ satisfaction.This paper expands the research of subjective waiting time,making usable suggestion on application design,which has value to academic theory and application prospect.
