In the construction of highway network in our country, the cable-stayed bridge is in the stage of rapid development. With the increasing of traffic flow of highway transportation in our country, the continuous improvement of highway grade of the load, heavy-duty vehicles are also increasing, and the excellent bearing capacity and performance of cable-stayed bridge provides a good solution for this situation. Like the common concrete beam bridges,in the process of operation, cable-stayed bridges appear various types and degrees of damage and defects sooner or later under the combined effect of various external factors, so bridge structure can no longer meet the needs of traffic load. How to accurately evaluate the structure situation of the cable-stayed bridge, and how to evaluate the bearing capacity of the structure, will affect the reliability of the guidance of structure maintenance work. Therefore, it is very necessary to study the characteristics of the detection and evaluation of the existing cable-stayed bridge and the strengthening treatment. In view of the above situation, this paper has carried out the following work in combination with the detection and evaluation ofcertain cable-stayed bridge.(1) The status of domestic and foreign highway cable-stayed bridge construction and structure behavior of cable-stayed bridge structure are introduced. Combined with the research status of existing cable-stayed bridge structure detection and evaluation, the significance of cable-stayed bridge detection, evaluation and repair and reinforcement is pointed out.(2) The performance and the formation mechanism of common diseases of cable stayed bridges are analyzed, and the check calculation methods and load test theory of cable-stayed bridges are introduced.(3) Theories and methods of evaluating the technical condition of existing bridges are described in detail. The methods are evaluated and the conditions of use are defined. And the necessity of comprehensive use of various methods for the evaluation of bridges is pointed out.(4) Comprehensive structure inspection, calculationcheck, load test and capability assessment ofcertain cable-stayed bridgeare carried out, and opinions and suggestions to the reinforcement and maintenance of this bridge are put forward. Furthermore, with the achievements above, the cause of bridge diseases and structure status are analyzed. This article provides some technical information for the operation and maintenance to bridges of the same type.
