In recent years, with the continuous development of urbanization,socio-economic and the continued adjustment of the spatial structure, the traffic demand continues to be enlarged, and traffic time-space resources are difficult to adapt to traffic demand, which causes traffic congestion increasing seriousness and presents a trend from the occasional development to normalization.Urban traffic congestion has become a hot topic today, and traffic control is becoming the key means to alleviate congestion and enhance operating efficiency.Urban arterial road is the main carrier of the traffic load to achieve travel smoothly, which is essential for urban transport. Therefore, coordination control for road traffic signal has become an important method. In order to research the coordination control method for arterial road, considering the influence of queuing of vehicles to operation efficiency and delay time of road traffic, the paper regards the queue length as the parameters of coordinated control and analyzes the queuing characteristics of coordination intersections, which is used to construct phase difference mode. The phase difference optimization is realized by analyzing the classification of vehicle arrival types.Combining with phase and phase sequence optimization that aims to design the optimization scheme for arterial coordination control.Based on the summary of the research background, significance, research status and existing problems, for systematically elaborating the research content, the full paper is divided into four parts. The first part studies the queuing characteristic which derives from a single intersection to the arterial coordinate intersections.According to two conditions(whether the initial queuing is completely dissipated and the secondary queuing is existed),the queuing formation and dissipation under the situation of different combination is analyzed, and the calculation models of queue length are established. The second part researches the offset optimization model of arterial coordinate intersections.According to two thoughts of vehicle getting through the intersection with non-stopping or delaying minimally with blocked queuing, based on the analyzing the classification of vehicle arrival types, the proposed model considers queue formation and dissipation in the calculation process and constructs offset under the different situations. The third part introduces the coordination control model of classic bidirectional green wave.Aiming at the deficiency of without considering the queue empty time and phase and phase sequence optimizing inadequacy, based on the several relationship of the moment for the green light starting, which is determined by the offset at the intersections, analyzes different value interval of overlapping and intermittent green time, then seven phase and phase sequence optimization model are established. The fourth part is case study, selecting 8 intersections from Jiangshan Road to College Road along Coastal road in the city of West-coast New Area of Qingdao as research object, the status and problems of signal scheme are investigated and analyzed.According to the models of offset optimization and phase and phase sequence optimization, the optimization scheme for arterial coordination control is designed. Finally, the current scheme and optimization scheme are simulated by using VISSIM simulation software, and the evaluation indexes, including delay time, number of stops and the average queue length are analyzed to verify the validity of the optimization models and coordinated control optimization scheme.
