Turbocharger is an apparatus which connects the engine with intake and exhaust systems,it could compress the high density air and then pass it to the engine. The compressor housing, the turbo housing and the center section constitute a turbocharger. The turbine shaft is rotated in the center section by a pair of floating bearings. The exhaust gas drives the turbine rotate so that the compressor wheel can transmit energy to the air.For the turbocharger production line,the chief issue of engineers is to find a reasonable design to suit the development cycle of the vehicle plant. At present, robot technology has been widely used in foreign assembly line and become the mainstream direction of automatic assembly. In order to adapt to the change of vehicle model, different parts use the collinear production mode. So it is necessary to consider the balance of the turbocharger assembly line in the design process, and to ensure the accuracy and stability of every equipment by experimental verification and prototype production.The research background of this paper is the Volkswagen GEN3 engine to replace the GEN2 series and the corresponding turbocharger also needs to upgrade. By analyzing the sales and structure between two generations and calculating the parallel time, the company decided to invest new production lines. This paper discusses the possibility of investment quantity, time and collinear production mode analysis and also research on the automatics, error proofing technique and line balance ability. At last, the assembly capacity of the production line is verified.
