The core value of the museum is the research and presentation functions and the efficacy to educate people. It is especially true for museums containing cultural heritages with long history of a country and a region. The irreplaceability of culture lays its core position in the whole museum industry. With the increasing force of free admission of national museums and the change of mass consumption ideology, the museums need to change the operation idea and innovate management means in order to the pressure of museum in operation, maintenance and fund shortage. In recent years, in order to encourage culture and museum industry, the country has actively explored the connotations of the collections, developed derivatives with the collection characteristics and issued a series of policies and regulations that has attracted the attention of all-level museums. Besides, it also tries to regard the derivatives development as the new fulcrum for the sustainable development of museums.However, the derivatives development of Chinese museums is still in the primary stage and the systematic study of this issue is very few. Given this, this paper collects textual and graphic files, meanwhile conducts field visit in domestic and foreign museums, combs and mines the cultural background of derivatives, discusses and analyzes the derivatives development situation in domestic and foreign museums and proposes constructive suggestions for the derivatives development in domestic and foreign museums in order to improve and make up for the weakness and deficiency in the development and study of Chinese museums, thus promoting the development of cultural industry.
