Recently, as the economy develop, the number of mega bridge construction is growing. Compared with architectural engineering, bridge construction involves complex geographical situation and projects. This results in the complicated design and construction of bridge, thus improving the requirements of the design and construction. Two dimensional paperwork is used as a major tool in traditional design of bridge, which lacks of collaborative design. As a result, problems like collision and shortage of deepening design would cause frequent change of design plan. Bridge construction excessively relys on the experience and professional knowledge of engineers, and management based on two dimensional paperwork. This leads to the problems including the schedule delay, overspend of cost, difficulty of quality control, and safety accidents. The following works was done in this paper, trying to apply BIM to the bridge construction.1) Based on the properties and BIM applied requirements of bridge construction, the project management framework of mage bridge was designed.it mainly includes the analysis of BIM delivery standard, and the research of procedure of BIM execution in bridge construction.2) According to the requirements of bridge engineering design stage, put forward the BIM collaborative design process and the design of bridge design management solutions based on BIM, including the application of deepening design management and design change management plan with BIM technology.3) To solve the problems of bridge engineering construction,the model in the design phase was used to design bridge construction management solutions based on BIM, solutions include:construction plan simulation,schedule management, cost management, construction site management, quality and safety management, and other contents. At the same time, BIM collaborative management framework of bridges is proposed based on BIM application research which is done in the design and construction phase.4) Taken Tanjiang bridge as an example, the implementation process of using BIM in mega bridge construction management was extensively analyzed combining the corresponding solutions, which validates the effectiveness and feasibility of BIM and solutions.Through case studies, BIM was proved to be useful for solving the problems, like lack of effective synergy and terrible deepening design, in bridge construction, and optimize cost, quality, safety management. Therefore, the effect of mega bridge construction management would be improved. This paper might provide instructions for the similar application of BIM.
