Cave dwelling buildings as a traditional Chinese architecture, both in the cultural level, or the construction level, there is a very important research value. Cave as gems of Chinese traditional architecture, besides has the feature of human nature and life, is the most prominent feature of its sustainabilityand ecosystem. In cave dwelling building in China, which is very typical in shanbei region, this paper is the cave dwelling buildings, whether as a separate individual or as a settlement group, has its unique aesthetic value. Northern shaanxi loess plateau of cave dwelling buildings have been formed in the farming civilization period, in the study of history, the scholars have made a lot of in the caves of shaanxi, detailed field investigation and literature research, but on the whole, its research focus mainly concentrated in the tourism development and cultural resources development and the protection and inheritance, etc., and comprehensive analysis for northern shaanxi cave architecture research is less. And at present, the society for the understanding of the northern shaanxi cave degree is lower, the protection of cave dwelling building ability is insufficient, are responsible for a large number of shanbei cave in a state of waste. Therefore, in order to prevent the passage of shanbei cave architectural culture, the focus of this study was to further deepen the social awareness of shanbei cave culture, strengthen the inheritance and protection level, the protection of traditional cave dwelling architectural culture at the same time, can timely and effectively make up for the academic about shanbei cave dwelling architectural culture of blank, for the protection and development of northern shaanxi cave construction to provide the reference and reference.In this study, mainly USES literature research and field research method, on the basis of summarizing the scholars study on-the-spot investigation and inspection, to strengthen the integrity of the study. This paper mainly analyzed from three parts:(1) in shanbei region, this paper analyses the classification of the cave and features, and introduces the origin and development of northern shaanxi cave, and in-depth analysis of its characteristics; By contrast with other parts of the cave, cave peculiar art of shaanxi characteristics, and embody the shanbei cave existence value of folk culture.(2)Analyzes the architecture form and space layout characteristics of northern shaanxi cave, mainly embarks from the external and internal layout layout.
