In order to meet the needs of the development of general aviation in China, this paper carried out the research on the concept design of four-seat light aircraft. Through market analysis, the design requirements and objectives of four light aircraft are determined. The light aircraft are mainly used for primary driving training, as well as private transport, aerial photography and tourism. A four light aircraft conceptual design scheme is complete, including configuration design, the main overall parameter design, propulsion system design, preliminary design of major components, etc. A light aircraft performance analysis program was developed with EXCEL, which consists of input data module, propulsion system analysis module, weight analysis module, aerodynamic analysis module, performance analysis module. The application of the program is carried out to evaluate the conceptual scheme of the light aircraft. The analysis results show that the conceptual scheme of the light aircraft meets the requirements of performance design. The aerodynamic derivatives of the light aircraft were calculated by the vortex lattice method, and the static stability, dynamic stability, static control and dynamic control of the light aircraft were analyzed on the basis of this method. The flight test of 1:5 scaled model plane was completed for the further verification of stability and control of the concept design scheme. The results of theoretical analysis and the flight tests show that the design scheme of the light aircraft has good stability and control characteristics. The output of this paper provides an important reference for the development of the four-seat light aircraft.
