As the development of the theory and practice of sustainable design, the sustainable ideas are widely applied in the fields of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design and Landscape Architecture. The water quality maintaining and landscape water adding-on keeps consuming energy and maintain cost, so the systematic water self-purification in landscape has its theoretical and practical values in the sustainable development context. Waterfront landscape architecture usually involves in a more complex water circulation and eco-system within a large scale. Therefore the self-purification water system proposals, which base on the natural water shed conditions, possess more local characters.In this thesis, following the relevant self-purification water system theory and practice case review, typical cases study, it comes to the applicable strategies of waterfront self-purification water system. With the instance of the revitalization of the southern waterfront city in Singapore, the thesis demonstrates the exact application of the strategies in design process.The proposed plan of the waterfront self-purification water system integrates eco-revetment, water circulation restoration, stormwater management, artificial wetland, which includes the following strategies.1 Natural water shed eco-revetment restoration and water purified vegetation selection.2 Applicable landscape waterbody purification measures.3 Topography remodeling for self-purification system water flow route and speed directing.4 Water system reestablishment principles.5 Stormwater collection and management.6 Artificial wetland and purification green buff design.7 Regional water system integrated plan.8 Water quality emergency plan.9 Water sensitive city idea application and manage measure reform.The thesis illustrates the applicable scale, portion of each elements, and the functions of strategies’ integration, and takes the design performance into consideration, comes to the conclusion of the self-purification water system applicable strategies could be used in most of the waterfront landscape design. Then the thesis ends with the prediction that the strategies will be widely used in sustainable landscape architecture, and the theory and practice will be refined in the future.
