Research On Pedestrian System Improvement Of Urban Old District

Old city pedestrian system is an important part of urban transportation system, with a higher ratio in the proportion of travel. Compared to motorized transportation, pedestrian traffic is greener, safer, and with more help to the remission of traffic congestion problem in old town. But traditionally, pedestrian sections are only an ancillary extension of the motor vehicle traffic and public transport, leading to the problem of pedestrian facilities:a) lack of integrity and continuity; b) the pedestrian space is squeezed; c) pedestrian safety not guaranteed, not to mention the comfort. Under this background, the paper carried out the research on improvement planning of pedestrian traffic system in old town.First, by collecting the data of pedestrian system in old area, the paper analysed traffic characteristics on foot of the old system, digged the existing problems and sum up in order to suit the remedy to the case.Secondly, the overall design of the improvement planning of the old city pedestrian traffic was made, and the planning strategy was put forward as a guide, to leading the improvement work of network and crossing facilities.In view of the existing pedestrian traffic problems in old city, the research discussed the network improvement plan by focusing on the commute walking network and leisure walking network. The paper proposed the principles and methods from the layout form, cross section and cohesion of public transportation to improve the network service level.According to different types of crossing facilities, the pedestrian crossing facilities improvement planning was studied. The paper put forward the organization methods and improvement measures of the crosswalk and stereoscopic crossing, to ensure the safety and the smooth of pedestrian traffic.Taking Nantong city pedestrian traffic as the research object, improvement planning method was applied to the engineering practice.
