China is one of the world’s countries to have different kinds of severe natural disasters, which always happen frequently and widespread. Considering the huge population, especially after wenchuan earthquake in 2008 occured, building transitional housings in a short time was essential to meet basic living needs of the victims, but without relevant technical specifications for reference. Therefore, ministry of housing and urban-rural development of the people’s republic of china immediately organizing relevant departments established “technical guideline of transitional housings construction in earthquake disaster area(trial)”, hereafter referred to as guideline. Based on the domestic and foreign research results and technical specifications, guideline specifies the fire safety distance of color steel sandwich panel. Without considering the difference of geographical and meteorological conditions and having verification tests, the codes are apparently unscientific and unreasonable.Therefore, the Sichuan general fire brigade carried out full-scale color steel sandwich panel house and tent fire experiments. Based on the experimental data, they did some modeling research. But the research had some problems, for example, the establishment of extreme weather condition was unreasonable; the scope of meteorological conditions was narrow; the influence of convective heat transfer intensity to the fire safety distance was unconsidered; the function expression of fire safety distance about meteorological conditions was not obtained.To figure out the aforesaid issue, this paper makes a thorough analysis and emphatically studys the influence of convective heat transfer intensity to the fire safety distance. Based on the existing full-scale fire experimental data(experiment environment—environmental temperature 15.7℃, calmer wind), Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS)was carried out to build model. By comparing the simulation results with the experiment data, the simulation method turns out to be correct. Then, this paper presents the deviation analysis between the simulative maximum heat radiation intensity values and pre-existing simulative results under various wind speeds. Based on the former method, the development of panel house fire under different meteorological conditions was studied.Subsequently, the simulational precision of fluid software PHOENICS is validated with wind tunnel test results, this paper researches the outdoor wind field of panel houses. With the existing formulas of convective heat transfer coefficient, the influence of convective heat transfer intensity to the fire safety distance was studied through simplifying model.The following conclusions can be reached by simulation analysis:(1) Under the common weather conditions(environmental temperature-5℃~15.7℃, environmental wind speed 0m/s~4m/s), convective heat transfer intensity accounts for 2% of total intensity(the sum of convective heat transfer intensity and heat radiation intensity). Hence, when making fire protection design of panel house, the influence of convective heat transfer intensity to the fire safety distance was ignored. The threshold of heat radiation intensity 10kW/m~2 takes as judgement criteria of fire safety distance.(2) Under the extreme weather conditions(environmental temperature 50℃, environmental wind speed 10m/s), the influence of convective heat transfer intensity was not ignored. The proportion of convective heat transfer intensity is 10%, that is to say, the judgement criteria of fire safety distance is 9kW/m~2.With multivariable regression analysis, the function expression of fire safety distance was obtained, which is the function of the maximum heat radiation intensity, ambient temperature and wind speed. The formulas can be used as a reference for the planning and making standard related of sandwich panel houses in interim settlements.
