With the development of China’s vehicles industry, requirements are constantly improve in use safety of the fuel tank. Road conditions are extremely complex, it can lead to the deterioration of the fuel tank’s working conditions and often appear strength damage and other problems. Seriously affected the passenger vehicle driving safety, it has become a major problem on the fuel tank structure strength design.Based on the fuel tank as the research object, because of the strength damage has concealment and emergent, often have no obvious sign. It will cause a great loss. So with this article on the structure strength, the combination of static and dynamic finite element analysis for the strength design of fuel tank is of great significance.First of all, based on the three-dimensional model, according to the meshing principle, use shell element to meshing. Then set the unit parameters and constraints, the finite element model is established. It is based on the enterprise provide the typical working condition and finite element model, finite element static analysis method of static strength analysis was carried out on the fuel tank under typical conditions, obtained the stress nephogram and displacement nephogram. Analysis the stress larger area of fuel tank, with static strength multiplied by dynamic load coefficient and safety factor for checking, according to the fourth strength theory respectively to verify the result. Then research the structure dynamic characteristics of fuel tank, calculate the free modal of fuel tank, obtained the inherent frequency and vibration model of fuel tank. Base on it, carry on the dynamic analysis of the fuel tank. On the issue of structural strength. Obtain the curve of displacement and stress about time and the distribution of displacement and stress, check it whether meet the test requirements. Finally use electrical measuring stress and strain test to verify the authenticity and reliability of finite element calculation results.According combined static and dynamic finite element analysis method, inductive a certain guiding role of top-down design process in fuel tank structural strength design. It not only found the problems existing in the design of the fuel tank as early as possible, reduce the development time and the costs,but also speed up the development of fuel tank, can provide certain reference basis for the design of other fuel tank.
