With the development of technology and the increasing demand of the country, a lot of single species and small batch production tasks in the machining field are gradually transformed into the multi-species and medium or small batch production pattern. In order to accelerate the transformation of new technology to manufacturability and improve the production capacity, this paper focus on the typical parts- thin polyhedral structures. Through the research on the automatic clamping technology of thin parts, the processing technology of aluminum alloy, the industrial robot technology and the communication method in industrial field, the research and development of the digital machining unit is completed. Therefore, we have achieved the function of "monitoring equipment data", "release unit production tasks", "robot control and communication", "auxiliary parts control", "response on malfunction in unit" and so on.The main conclusion of the study in this paper as follows:(1) In this paper, the automatic clamping system and the automatic loading and unloading system by industrial robot are designed to achieve the quickly locating and clamping of the tool and workpiece, which can effectively reduce the production assistant time, and the improvement of processing technique can shorten the processing time, both of them improve the production capacity.(2) In this paper, the communication motheds between numerical control equipments be studied, on the basis, the monitoring data and the control of the numerical control equipments has been achieved through the network communication between the host computer and the numerical control equipments.(3) In this paper, the "unit control system" software, which has completed some work of digitization, has achieved the basic functions of the digital machining unit, and been put into operation.
