Aircraft tooling design has a crucial role in the development of the aircraft for high efficiency of tooling design can shorten the development period of aircraft tremendously. As the aircraft parts have characters of large amount, complex structure and large variation, high precision machining, complex coordinating relationships, at the same time the design of aircraft tooling is complicated, the development of aircraft parts tooling requires a long cycle. So, aviation manufacturing enterprises urgently need a rapid aircraft parts tooling design method.According to the above requirements, this thesis proposes a method for the rapid design method for aircraft parts tooling based on the deep analysis of current status of research in related fields. The main idea is based on technology of product family and modular design and knowledge based engineering. The key technologies of this paper include the following aspects:(1) According to the design features of aircraft parts tooling, presents a product family based on the division of the input source for parts tooling design including the feature of parts, the manufacturing process, and the information of manufacturing equipment. Propose a suitable module division method for aircraft parts tooling, then, analyze module interface information, module type, and storage strategies for aircraft parts tooling.(2) For tooling design has the character of experiential and high level of knowledge during the design process, analyze the information during the design processes for product families and modules. Establish the knowledge model for them. Then, using ontology-based method constructing the ontology model of product families and modules. Using the software of Protégé 4.2 modeling the ontology model and express them with formalized language with OWL language.(3) Based on the knowledge ontology of product families and modules, deploy the modular from two levels, i.e. product families and modules. When the designer get the task for designing a new tooling, he can search the most similar product family first. Then, configuration module instance in the product family based on the design rule. Meanwhile, this thesis also study the mapping relations between machining part parameters, the main parameters of the module and component parts of tooling parameters and realize the fully parametric constraints of module instance for rapid variant design.Finally, according to the key technologies for modular configuration design, develop a prototype system for aircraft parts tooling modular configuration based on CATIA secondary development, using C++ language. Introduce the selection of development tools, the system design requirements and the development architecture of the system in detail.
