With the rapid development of China’s civil aerospace industry, Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Co., Ltd.(SAMC) is striving to be a world-class aerospace manufacturer in the field of civil aircrafts. Since the quality control preferred product test than statistical process control, Numerical Control Workshop(NC Worksop) of SAMC cann’t satisfy the customer’s needs about process capability of machinofacture. With increasing parts manufacturing year by year, the contradiction between quality and production cycle, production costs is prominent. It is imperative to control work process and enhance process capability of machinofacture. Thus, it is extremely practical important for NC Worksop to improve production quality, and for SAMC to participate in the world’s most advanced aerospace manufacturers.The object in this paper for statistical quality control method was NC Worksop’s titanium alloy joint in aircraft horizontal tail, based on the titanium alloy parts machining quality control and statistical process control technology. This study targeted on enhancing the process capacity, using process data analysis to quantify and diagnose the error sources impacting process variability. Orthogonal experimental analysis was applied to optimize cutting parameters of titanium alloy joint. After the optimization to the process quality system of titanium alloy joint, applying optimized process parameters, preparing the critical process steps and matters needing attention, and the software developing for the quality data processing and analyzing, the key process ability was promoted significantly and the actual process capability index Cpk met and exceeded the customer’s requirements. The process capability was sufficient and the disqualification rate was decreased effectively. The quality improvement of titanium alloy joint in aircraft horizontal tail illustrated the feasibility and effectiveness of statistical quality control method during aerospace parts manufacturing process, and it was worth popularizing.
