Along with the development of an era, large commercial buildings' functional spaces can't adapt to the changing demands of modern consumers and businesses. It is clear that blind demolition not only has a great impact on the environment, but also caused environmental burden heavy, carbon dioxide emissions increasing and aggravative greenhouse effect. At the same time, it can't meet the overall requirements of sustainable development. So, it demands that, large commercial building' design considered functional spaces' sustainable utilization. Sustainable design of large commercial buildings' functional spaces has a great value. In this paper, 35 cities and 69 typical large commercial buildings have been surveyed. The large commercial buildings' storey, column grid size, space type, spatial organization, business district function formats and partition wall materials have been analysed. Based on the sustainable development of large commercial buildings' functional space, layout and partition walls' materials characteristics have been summarized. Qualitative and quantitative analysis have been used. Large commercial buildings' typical flat form, different functional layout, trends of space development and existed buildings' transformation have been studied. It used the basic model to accounting the total of buildings' the partition wall material and CO2 emissions in lifecycle time. The sustainable design strategies to adapt the changing development of functional spaces and save the partition wall materials in whole lifecycle have been obtained. The functional spaces' sustainable design strategies are spatial compatibility design, extened design and urban systems predict design. The extened design set the aside for the construction scale magnifying, the spatial compatibility design set for the mutual conversion between different scale s of spaces, and urban systems predict design set for the integration of modern urban rail transit. Sustainable design strategies of saving materials for partition walls based on whole lifecycle have two methods. Street style layout recommend 1.25 unit aspect ratio and centralized layout recommend 1.70 unit aspect ratio. The study has a strong guiding significance for large commercial buildings' functional space in sustainable design. It helps designers to organize functional space, and to evaluate the benefit of design environmental. At the same time, it would provide the valuable reference information in future research for architects and operators.
