Regardless of ancient time or nowadays, architecture and climate are closely linked, because it must be constructed in specific regions, and different area for construction has a limit of its unique natural conditions and social conditions, and eventually formed different architectural styles. Originally, architecture is a shelter from the wind and rain, summer heat dissipation, should be adapted to different climatic conditions to create a suitable indoor micro-climate environment. Therefore, a specific architectural design should respond to different climatic conditions, and design differently will directly affect the process of building construction, so that the climatic factors should always be taken into consideration in architecture design. Throughout the history of architecture, people from different regions can always adjust measures to local climate conditions to build different buildings and maintain their own characteristics.Developing countries of Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Oceania begin to develop national economy actively, making great efforts to improve the country's industrialization level. At the same time, along with the gradual development and maturity of China's steel structure design and construction technology, steel structure design and production enterprises begin to explore foreign markets actively. They have designed all kinds of light steel structure workshop, shopping malls and others in many developing countries. In trust with the Chinese steel structure technology and products, in recent years, more and more foreign businessmen come to China for technical learning and materials procurement.In this kind of situation, domestic steel structure enterprises in the design of light steel structure for the vast number of developing countries, obviously, it is difficult to completely apply the domestic design plan. New design and construction plan should take full consideration of the local natural conditions and social conditions. Among them, the different climatic conditions are an important factor. However, most of the domestic steel structure design and production enterprises do not take enough consideration of the local climate impact to foreign projects.In the tropics, there are four typical climate types:tropical rain forest climate, tropical steppe climate, tropical desert climate and tropical monsoon climate. For each climate type, the corresponding building performance design objectives are discussed. Data is collected from different projects to make correlation analysis and to summarize the common problems and general characteristics in the tropics building of light steel structure design. According to the different climatic conditions, the general passive design strategies of light steel structure building are given; and finally through software simulation, the corresponding suggestions on how to optimize are also proposed. This paper can provide relevant references for designers of China about overseas projects.
