| Today along with the acceleration of urbanization, booming of both economy and tourism, the existence and continuation of traditional villages are facing their opportunities, as well as challenges. Every village has its own characteristics, and spatial form is the carrier for these characteristics. It bears functionalities and development requirements of the village, also reflects history, culture and living memories of different eras. Inherit village characteristic, meanwhile satisfy the development demands will be the key to sustainable development of traditional villages. These could be achieved through preservation and optimization of the village spatial form.This thesis takes the spatial form of traditional village in Sanshandao within Lake Taihu Resort as research object, trying to obtain a comprehensive cognition of current situation, problem and its development demanding of the traditional village spatial form through different perspectives, such as natural and cultural conditions, economy and social culture status, present and past situations, local and regional development. By using technical tools such as ArcGIS and Space Syntax, writer analyzes the landscape environment, overall spatial form, streets structure and architecture elements of traditional village in both qualitative and quantitative way. This article also summarizes the spatial form features and structure logic of the traditional village, which provides the basis for its preservation and optimization. After the scope and principles of preservation and optimization were determined, detailed methods and strategies are proposed and discussed to keep the traditional village characteristics alive and thrive. Based on the restoration of Hehua River and re-design of the Water Street, new ways are explored on how to preserve and optimize the landscape environment and spatial form of traditional village, as well as methods to place new functional space. |
