Research On Chinese Avantgarde Architecture In The New Century

With the increasing influence of globalization and urbanization in the new century, China's construction industry has been going through a golden age of rapid development. However, the invasion of western avant-garde architectural culture forced us to rethink the development and exploration of the local architectural culture. Up to now, the track has shown of the exploration of Chinese contemporary architecture. Therefore, this paper attempts to investigate the new frontier of Chinese architecture from the angle of avantgarde architecture.Firstly, the paper introduces the research background, the research purpose and some related concepts of avantgarde architecture, defining the main scope of study. Secondly, the paper defines the criteria of avantgarde architecture and selects some typical avant-garde architecture and architects as the main research sample, analyzing the basic characteristics and making a systematic study on their development in the new century. Then, the article summarizes four types of Chinese avantgarde architectural explorations in the new century which are analyzed later by case studies. The four types are:the resistance based on the tradition and regionalism, the rational innovation based on architecture itself, the active participation based on the urbanity and the exploration of the frontier based on the digital technology. At last, the paper gives a tentative evaluation system by the form of radar maps and discusses the value and significance of Chinese avantgarde architecture.
