Abstract/Summary:
Grid related protections and limitations of generators are important part of generator protections. The action of grid related protections not only influence the safe of generators, but also related to operation of grid. Therefore, it is necessary to check the setting values of grid related protections and limitations of the generator and ensure the protections and limitations act correctly in order to make sure the grid operate safely.The paper analysis the influence of different models and its parameters of grid related protections and limitations on the setting values of the protections and the Cooperation among them, such as under-excitation limitation, loss of field protection, over-excitation limitation and overload protection.The generators’ grid related protections and limiters do have some problems, such as the conservation and mismatching of settings of protections and limiters, and the coordination between these protections and limiters and power systems. Based on full dynamic simulation, an automatically checking method of generators’ grid related protections and limiters is proposed. It can be used to check the dynamic performance of protections and limiters of generators under different fault conditions operation modes, therefore to evaluate the operation risk of power system.An auto checking program is developed based on the method as mentioned earlier. The chapter four of the article introduce the function of different sub-modules of the auto checking program and the flow chart of the program.Auto checking method proposed in the paper is validated through the model of actual system in chapter five. The simulation results show that the method represents the dynamic performance of electric power system after disturbance more actually, and can be an effective tool for stability analysis and optimization control of power system.
