Our country has already become an enormous giant of aged population. The old age population quantity is big, and the old age speed is quick. Aging high speed development could have adverse effect on the development of economy and the stability of the society in our country. Along with the changes of family structure in our country, The number of retired elderly people and empty nester is growing bigger and bigger. The pressure of Traditional home-based care for the aged is increasing. So there could be a big increase in demand of social endowment. As a new type of social pension the aged community has been into public view gradually. However, the present urban social care facilities are commonly low in standard, consist a limited amount of utility and deficient designs in the aspects of comfort and logic, which are incompetent to match the demand of senior people’s daily needs. On the one hand, the old fitness facilities is not perfect, on the other hand, life of the elderly is single, spiritual emptiness in the elderly community. In the recent years, the current construction and study of our country’s urban social care facilities focus on how these facilities satisfy the physical need of elderly people, but a lack of attention is paid into the area of old people’s psychological situations. Due to the lack of relevant theoretical research, there are a lot of problems in the previous practice in aged community.Referring to the above background, this essay treats the aged community as the research object. The dissertation can split into following aspects, the first chapter elaborates the current research of the elderly community, and induced the situation development around the world; the second and the third chapter dedicates to problem analysis. Explore the living situation and the needs of the elderly living in Nanjing by questionnaire investigation. Researching elderly community residents further and summing up the changes of seniors’ requirements in the city, by combining with the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly. Make an example analysis of the existing domestic elderly communities, summarizes the status quo and existing problems of urban elderly community in china. Chapter 4 dedicates to problem solving. Proposing the way that consummating the aged community. from its house, inside traffic, outside space, public service facilities and so on, and proposing the concept that connecting the elderly communication and elderly university to form a mix elderly community, by the study on elderly communication and the main people living in and its constitute in the early time. It requires not only being attention to the material life of the elderly, but also paying attention to the demand for spiritual life after retirement. A university for the aged in aged community is designed to facilitate the old to participate in activities and encourage communications,creating opportunities to make contributions to the society. Chapter 5 focus on project practicing. It makes an articular example about planning and design of NanJing Wanyuan Elderly Community which I have done with the help of my tutor during my master’degree study. As a result, to hopefully provide valuable proposals to our country’s design method for elderly community.
