With the rapid development of the high-speed hardware platform recent years, and the updating of embedded operating system. The mobile terminal platform becomes a new research area, and attracts many researchers and manufacturers. Because of the Android embedded operating system has the attributes of open source and strong extensibility, many developers use it to do a secondary development on intelligent terminal. As we all know, nowadays the location and navigation technologies of GPS are applied to mobile operating system maturely. This paper shows that by using the excellent portability of Android to design a GPS navigation system of an intelligent wheelchair which based on the navigation service of AMap, and provide an outdoor navigation plan for travelling by using intelligent wheelchair.The first half of this paper mainly introduces the research background, presents the current situation of intelligent wheelchair and navigation terminal device; also describes the research meaning of intelligent wheelchair navigation system. Introduce the set up of intelligent wheelchair navigation system both on software and hardware in detail, do the research and test on the hardware system. Do the research on the application develop platform, and finally decide to use the design plan based on the AMap platform.The second half of the paper introduces the scheme of this system and the implementation process, describes the architecture of the system, and also presents the system interface design, the design and implementation of each part. Complete the following functions: positioning function, the path planning function, geocoding inquiry/inverse inquiry, personal location marker, and so on.As a new transportation for those disabled, intelligent wheelchair become popular in this market. For serving those old people who travels outside, the navigation function can offer great facilitation to users, so it would possess broad market prospects.
