Investigation And Research On Regional Characteristics Of Traditional Landscape Architecture Of Wenzhou

Wenzhou is a landscape city which has a deep historical and cultural foundation.The city has been built nearly1700 years,and it still retains the spatial framework of landscape city like Big Dipper and the unique features of one integrated by islands,mountains,rivers and the city.And there are a lot of mountains and lakes in Wenzhou,which provides the basic conditions for the construction of the traditional landscape architecture.Based on the unique regional culture and geographical environment,traditional landscape architecture of Wenzhou inherited the construction skills of Jiangnan traditional landscape architecture,and then formed an unique style of geographical characteristics and cultural connotation.The aim of this paper is to systematical analysis the development and regional characteristics of the traditional landscape architecture of Wenzhou,finding out the profound cultural background of it.According to the sum-up of references and field research,this paper was concluded in three aspects below:(1)Through researching references about cultural background and historical development,traditional landscape architecture of Wenzhou originated in the period of six dynasties,developed in the Sui and Tang dynasties,being prosper in Song and Yuan dynasties and being highly skilled in Ming and Qing dynasties.And,the construction methods of artificial and natural throughout the whole process of landscape development,mutually connected,and become the landscape full of regional characteristics(2)According to different location environment and construction method,traditional landscape architecture of Wenzhou is sorted into three types: wild landscape,suburban landscape and settlement landscape.Wild landscape constructs a natural landscape garden of self-cultivation with the nature as a skeleton,integrating culture into nature.Suburban landscape makes full use of nature,coordinating the artificial and natural,constructing the landscape architecture having civilizing function.Settlement landscape is a artificial garden full of poetry or painting prospect,constructed by expert artificial method,which is in the city and can appreciate the natural scene.(3)Based on the development and remains,the regional characteristics of traditional landscape architecture of Wenzhou is analysised from six aspects: landscape forms,spatial distribution,landscape buildings,plant landscape,artistic conception as well as water and stone.Then the conclusion was drawn that traditional landscape architecture of Wenzhou is majorly constituted by wild landscape and suburban landscape,combining teaching with landscape,making the scenery become wonderfull through man-made,and finally formed the characteristics of the clear,far and simple.Nowadays,there exists fixed thinking of “Suzhou Garden”,“Literal Garden” in the view of Jiangnan traditional landscape architecture,ignoring the rich and colorful forms.This paper is hoped to enrich the content of Jiangnan landscape architecture,and provide some advice to speed up the construction of historical and cultural city and landscape city in Wenzhou.
