Locomotives and parts management is an important part of railway locomotive depot management. Its level decides normal operation and transportation production efficiency of railway locomotive depot. Railway locomotive depot can realize the management of the whole life cycle of locomotives, raise the production efficiency, reduce the locomotives shut down time, control the maintenance expenses, reduce locomotives storage and raise the purchasing efficiency etc. by using a good locomotives and parts management information system. So locomotives and parts management information system has become an indispensable part of railway locomotive depot in the construction of the railway enterprise informatization. Meanwhile, it is an important research field of the present management information system.According to the current situation and development trend of locomotives and parts management of Baotou West Locomotive Depot in Hohhot Railway Bureau, the production and the actual needs of every department are investigated and analyzed accurately.Locomotives and parts management information system is set up with the advanced computer network technology. The system is based on the B/S(Browser/Server) and C/S(Client/Server)structure. Two parts use SQL Server 2000 database operating system of the server. The B/S part is developed for webpage service by using ASP.NET technology. The C/S part is application program of the terminal operating server database that is developed by using AutoCAD ActiveX technology. Many modules are included in the webpage service. The locomotive module is used to record the locomotive management information in whole life cycle such as setting, acceptance, allotting, maintaining and scrapping etc. The part module is used to record the information of the part, manage the part of putting into storage and delivering from storage.The ordering module is used to record the information about manufacturer, supplier, price and ordering.The user module is used to manage the user's information and permission scientifically. The forum module is used to announce and communicate online. The function based on AutoCAD is increased to access the parts drawing from the server directly. The processing ability of the terminal is developed to reduce the burden of the server in C/S effectively. Meanwhile, the weakness of the high maintenance expense is overcome because the system is used in special department. Many advantages are developed with convenient maintenance, upgrading and good adaptability in the B/S part.Because graph processing is managed by C/S part, burden of the server is alleviated with two parts working together. The higher cost performance is possessed and resource is distributed rationally.The system has worked well in the actual operation. The staff in the locomotive depot can operate the system with the browser in the network conveniently. The functions of thesystem are abundant. The high sharing and fast processing of information are fulfilled in the depot. The unity, integrality and real-time information are assured. The AutoCAD strengthening interface is simple, convenient and high-efficient for processing the parts drawing message, which is one highlight of the research. The prototype development method is adopted. With the development of enterprises and continuous change of the user's needs,the system will be developed and upgraded quickly in the future. It is superior to the other systems. A new thought is provided for developing systems of other enterprises by the research and development in this system.
