With Chinese economy developing rapidly and industrialization and urbanization accelerating, a large number of rural labor forces expecially young and middle-aged populations begin to work in the city, resulting in sharp reduction of rural permanent populations and "vacant rooms" in many villages. The dramatic reduction of permanent populations leads to uninhabited houses in rural areas, increased seriously damaged houses and highlighted idle homesteads. The "vacancy" brings realistic conditions to the renovation of residences in villages especially rural residences near the city. Recent years have witnessed an increasingly intense pace of life, so people have more damand for rural tourism and leisure. As a result, rural tourism in the suburbs of city becomes a hotspot, providing realistic possibility and requirement for the emergence of guesthouse industry. How to learn previous experience and make full use of architectural design methods to combine the renovation of untraditional rural folk house with guesthouse tourism has become a focus concerned by architects.Starting from the status quo of renovated guesthouse of untraditional rural folk house and selecting four excellent cases, this paper summarizes the design strategies for renovated guesthouses of untraditional rural folk house-similarities and differences. Specific renovation methods in respects of building function, architectural forms, interior space, exterior space, building material and construction technology are proposed from the perspective of architectural design.This chapter summarizes the whole paper, and puts forward the innovations of the thesis research and outlooks the further development in this field.
