With the emphasis on the product design stage, all kinds of rapid design methods appeared. The unitized design must be the core of this research, and engineering semantics and geometric features are both integrated into the process of reasoning and construction for the units of product constitute, the unitized design method driven by engineering semantics and geometric features was proposed. Through the analysis of the unit information, the unit symbol model was established respectively. The meaning including engineering semantics and geometric features of units were analyzed, and on this basis, the design scheme was generated and the unit was assembled automatically, then the concept design of product was preliminarily realized. This method not only provides a technology that it is rapidly for obtaining the design scheme from conceptual design level, but also has certain significance for the flexible assembly of units.The main research contents of this article were as follows:(1) Modeling of units based on the function flow. It analyzes the meaning of product units and those units were classified into functional units and connecting units, then unit symbol model was established respectively from the point of function flow, summarized into map form from the information of units.(2) The auto-generated method of unitized design scheme, which was based on engineering semantics, was studied. Taking engineering semantics as constitute element, product function model was established, based on the analysis of product function. The input and output characteristics table of the unit was set up by the summary of some function transfer features of common function structure. On the basis of the product function model, preliminary design scheme was generated automatic through traversing the input and output characteristics table. Then according to the information from the unit map, some units with certain structure were chose to complete the formation of design scheme.(3) The method of unit assembly based on geometric features edit was researched. The problem that may occur in the assembly process was analyzed, and matching and editing the unit interface information perspective from geometric features. On this basis, auto- assembled method was proposed, according to the matching assembly relationship to realize the auto- assembled of units.(4) According to the above research, the unitized design system driven by engineering semantics and geometric features was developed to realize the unitized design process from function to product model, through taking SolidWorks as the platform and choosing Visual Studio as development tool.
