Application Of Space Syntax Theory In The Museum Space

The limitation of designing’s disciplinary nature leads to designers’ relying on sensory experience in theoretical basis and practical application as well as their emphasis on inspiration and innovation.Thus,designers seldom make space designs or arrangements from the perspective of the essence of space.From the core nature of space and using fabric analysis,Space Syntax Theory studies and brings about a quantitative analysis and assessment on the relationship between spaces,in order to reveal the characteristics of space and provide instructions and suggestions on designing process through mastering the relationship between spaces.Through case studies on art galleries,this thesis provides a quantitative analysis of convex spaces,axial lines and view grids in the interior space of art galleries,thus inducing the connection degree,depth degree,integration degree,accessibility degree and other quantitative variables in space,analyzes the deep relationship between spaces and combines designing methods to adjust designing schemes,putting forward Strength and Weakness Control in designing process,in order to make adjustment plans on the designing schemes according to different design requirements and specific surroundings,summarize multiple designing methods on optimizing space designs and tease out the application steps of Space Syntax Theory in practice.This thesis,on one hand,reveals the regular patterns of interior space by studying China’s art galleries using Space Syntax Theory and discovers the Theory’s practical application in art galleries by verification through analyzing research data.On the other hand,it provides adjustment methods by using the regular patterns of interior space revealed by Space Syntax Theory to optimize space designs.By renewing the concept on space and from a new perspective in designing,this thesis provides designing work with a more scientific basis.In consideration of the specific functions of various spaces in art galleries,it summarizes the influence of different design methods on space configuration and provides adjustment and optimization plans on designs to make them more suitable for the nature of specific spaces,thus bring about the most excellent design scheme by a scientific and objective standard.
