With the increasingly rise of people’s living standards, people are no longer satisfied with the material enjoyment brought from the product functions of modern products, but mostly in pursuit of cultural connotation and artistic value of products. To meet this new demand, it becomes more and more important to strengthen the cultural characters of modern product design. The products are given the cultural characters by developing and recreating of the cultural resources, and what’s more, the using of cultural resources will enrich the connotation of design and enhance the added value of creative design. The fusion of culture and product is not only highlight the unique cultural style and spirit of charm of product design, but also support the product design in an invincible position in the international market competition.The research purpose of this subject is providing a common and intuitive planning to solve the problem of the fusion of product and culture and illustrating the key points of the planning. It promotes the heritage and sustainable development of culture and helps creating products of cultural characteristics. The organic unity of cultural value and practical value meets the market demands and will improve a group of independent brands of comprehensive and international comprehensive strength. Finally, they are applied to the watch design project, and the validity of the design methods is verified.To sum up, the main studies in this thesis is covered as follows:First, background to the relevant industries and status of products’cultural connotation and relevant research methods at home and abroad are explored. Trough analysis of needs and development trends of society, the thesis presents some flaws in the current research.Second, the cultural connotation of products and planning in the product design is studied, including the relationship of culture and products and the features of planning in product design. The four features of planning are analyzed, which provide the basis for the cultural connotation planning.Third, the products’ cultural connotation planning is illustrated, which including the structure thread of product’s cultural connotation planning, the principle of the planning and the planning processes.Fourth, the key points of products’cultural connotations planning were studied. There are three key points should be pay attention to throughout the planning process. The three key points are analyzed briefly and relevant methods are put forward. We can make clear of what should we do, how to do and what methods to take on each key point.Fifth, the design of wrist watch is used as a case study to verify the method presented in this thesis. Case application of the method proposed in this paper to verify the actual operation of the project. The feasibility of the planning is verified by the planning and implementation of practical projects. It will help to create a system of planning for products’ culture and provide related planning theories and methods. It is great significant for the design of products of cultural connotation.
