In this paper, the particle piles were used as simplified model of complex system, and pile experiments were carried out under different conditions to elaborate the evolution and the collapse mechanism of the pile s. On this basis, the research analysis was deduced to the evolution mechanism and the catastrophe mechanism and control measures of complex system. Then some specifications in tunnel construction were explained by using the theory of complex system, and the disaster factors as well as control methods of tunnel construction was put forward. The main works and research results are as follows:(1)Pile experiments for particle were carried out from three aspects, such as material energy input and output, interior structure and boundary conditions. Based on the analyzing and summarizing results of piles experiment of the three aspects, it can be conclude that particle piles and so on a series of extensive dissipative dynamical systems will evolve to a balance state of input and output, it's just on one condition that there is sustained input of material and energy. Moreover, it is only a special form to evolve to critical state.(2) The main factors influencing the extensive dissipative dynamical system evolution has been extended to the other three factors, such as material energy input and output, interior structure and boundary conditions. The original factors are the structure, status and the strength of external disturbances.(3) Because of the different material energy input and output, internal structure and boundary conditions as well as the different combination in space and time, the process to balance state of evolution will always be broken. Then, based on new foundation, system will evolve to a new equilibrium state. The evolution dynamics process of extensive dissipative dynamical system is always characterized by continuous cycle process. It begins with imbalance, then becomes a local equilibrium, after the whole equilibrium, it turns to be imbalance again. Balance is temporary and relative, but imbalance is absolute and unconditional. The rule to equilibrium evolution conforms to the rule of conservation of energy and material, also conforms to the contradictory movement rule.(4) The piles collapse mechanism was explored respectively from three aspects, such as material energy input and output, interior structure and boundary conditions. We conclude that it is difficult to obtain deterministic prediction for collapse scale, collapse time and places. If a deterministic forecast wants to be done for the nature system which is similar to piles collapse, the possibility of implementation is close to zero.(5) On the basis of the above work, the research results was applied to explain the construction of the tunnel for the first time, it is such a complex system which catastrophe occurs easily. Then, the construction specification was explained from three aspects, such as material energy input and output, interior structure and boundary conditions, and then providing certain guidance for safety construction.
