With the rapid development of social economy and urbanization, the urban transportation system turns more complicated. The commuter bus is not only one kind of employee benefits provided by enterprises, also, it can effectively alleviate the pressure of public transportation. Meanwhile, as mobile technology and intelligent terminal develops, employees' demand for location information of buses has become more and more urgent.The GPS-based location system of handheld regular bus designed in this paper, by means of interaction with background servers on the Android platform, could achieve real-time location queries for a specified bus, obtaining information of the longitude, latitude and related parameters of the next site while the bus is running. The Related computing functions such as user management, site storage, bus real-time position of longitude and latitude, site calculation and so on are implemented on the background servers, while the client is designed to mainly realize the function of display and interaction. All the information is sent to the client from the server under special agreements.On the client side, a user could select the site mode or map mode to display the real-time location of a running bus. The site model would list all the sites a bus passes by, mark them with a particular color and offer an arrival remind in advance, which could save waiting time for the user and make it more convenient to travel, and thus obtain a fairly strong practicality.The key technologies used in this article mainly include GPS technology, Android development technology, and mobile GIS technology and so on. Requirements of the system derive from regular bus customers who have already been equipped with a GPS-based location report system. The overall architecture of the system makes use of the C/S structure. In this paper, we make some research into the transformation algorithm from latitude and longitude to distance, map offset algorithm and map matching algorithm applied in the system. At the same time, implementation methods and processes of functional modules in the whole system are introduced in detail.
