With the continuous expansion of the grid scale and rising capacity of the generators, the requirements of generator for the control performance and response speed of the excitation system become higher and higher. And with the development of control theory and power electronics technology, the digital excitation control system develops continuously. In this context, combined with improved particle swarm optimization this thesis designs excitation loop control system based on DSPTMS320F2812 as the lower machine and CANopen communications network as the upper monitor.Firstly, the basic control principle of excitation control system is expounded including excitation control process and operational principle of phase shift trigger circuit. And then a third-order mathematical model for excitation control system is established. Using this module the thesis does a thorough research on PID control algorithm for controlling the excitation system including using the improved particle swarm optimization on the PID parameters and simulating the improved particle swarm PID algorithm under the Matlab circumstances. Then the thesis details the excitation control system hardware components of the lower machine and the upper monitor. Based on the hardware platform the writer writes and debugs the key program including main program of excitation control system, sampling interrupt program based on the over sampling algorithm, capture interrupt program, three-point pushed data logging interrupt program, ePWM pulse-trigger interrupt program and CAN-bus underlying communication program.At last the CANopen protocol for excitation control system based on CAN bus is set. Then the writer debugs the uplink and downlink data for the communication networks by using the DSP eCAN modules and API functions from Visual C++. And the communication works well.
