With the power grid construction vigorously, as one of effective means to improve power quality, reactive power compensation technology gets more and more attention. As the current advanced reactive power compensation device, static var generator with its advantages such as rapid response and accurate compensation leads the study trend of compensation technology. For reasons of economy and reliability, more and more embedded control systems are applied to the design of reactive power compensation device, but this leads to the problem that the program codes will be too complicated. This dissertation introduces the model-based design in the research of control system of static var generator, tries to seek the model-based design combined with new approaches to the study of the power electronics field,and proves the superiority of embedded design and development.By reading a large number of relevant research literatures, the development course and research trend of the reactive power compensation technology and compensation device were mastered. The related technology of control part was researched deeply. The detection and control methods of static var generator and related parameters were determined. On this basis, the leading design method of model-based design was introduced and the control system models were established.Through a series of verification and testing means on the MATLAB platform, the model configuration was done and the work of automatic code generation was realized. The codes were compiled into control chip. Combined with hardware circuit,compensation function was realized. Experimental results show that the compensation effect of static var generator by model-based design works perfectly and the design was feasible. This dissertation proves this new type of embedded system development pattern with the advantages of both the economic and reliability can be introduced in power electronics subject.
