Polyethylene(PE) is a kind of insulation material widely used in insulation power cable. Adding additives can effectively improve PE resistance performance. To develop effective additives has become a hot research field of engineering application of dielectric. Acetophenone is a by-product of a peroxide crosslinking reaction which can effectively prevent the formation of electrical trees and improve the breakdown strength of PE. However, because its smaller molecular weight and poor compatibility with polyethylene, it will gradually spread to the surface and disappear, worsening the electrical of the material.Therefore, it is necessary to inhibit extraction of acetophenone so that the electrical performance of insulating materials will be improved.In the paper, introduce a double bond active groups in acetophenone paraposition, acetophenone vinyl oxygen radicals/PE grafted compounds were prepared. Besides, grafting effect was verified through the infrared spectrum detection and the amount of gel content was tested. The gel content is 10% lower than PE. Then the breakdown strength of acetophenone vinyl oxygen radicals(0.5wt%,1wt%,1.5wt%and2wt%)/PE grafted compounds was tested,comparing with PE, it is higher than that of PE and it is the highest that the breakdown strength of 1wt % acetophenonevinyl oxygen radical/PE grafted compounds. Moreover, the mass loss and breakdown strength of acetophenone vinyl oxygen radicals/polyethylene grafted compounds, acetophenone/ PE composites and PE. after 300 hours of heat treatment was tested;It turns out acetophenone vinyl oxygen radicals/PE grafted compounds has a certain inhibitory effect on the precipitation.At last, in this paper we research the electric tree resistance performance of acetophenone vinyl oxygen radicals/PEgrafted compounds. The experiment shows that it can effectively inhibit the electric tree. Moreover, the conductivity, dielectric constant and dielectric loss are higher than PE.
