The Mach number of the common aero turbine engines does not exceed 3.0, in order to widen the flight range of aerocraft, a very effective way is to pre-cool the inlet air flow. At present, the workable pre-cooling proposals consist mainly of two: one way is to mix the air and the coolant sprayed by the injection device, the other way is to install a heat exchanger, of which through the wall the air and the coolant convective heat transfer. After pre-cooling, the temperature of the inlet air decreases, the air density increases, the limit of the compressor inlet temperature rises, the operating range of the engines is greatly improved.According to the principle of pre-cooling air intake, firstly take a two-spool mixed turbofan as the subject, employ water as the coolant, establish the mathematical model of water spray and heat exchanger pre-cooling schemes. Secondly, refer to the basic speed characteristics of turbofan engines, under the condition that the inlet stagnation temperature does not exceed the limit, utilize the gas turbine performance calculation software GasTurb to confirm the effective flight scope of the subject investigated. Thirdly, calculate the engine performance parameters of two pre-cooling schemes along the flight path. The results show that the engine performances of two pre-cooling programs promote significantly compared to the ordinary circumstance. Meanwhile, conclusions can be drew by comparing two different ways that heat exchange pre-cooling scheme has a better promotion effect on engine thrust and fuel consumption performance, but for the specific impulse, water spray pre-cooling has more advantages. From the aspect of engine efficiency, although the compressor efficiency, thermal efficiency and total efficiency of heat exchange program are superior in that of water spray program, the latter has unique advantage in propulsive efficiency.
