With the issue of energy security and environmental pollution increasingly serious, sustainable development has become the global guidelines for long-term development in 21 st century. Ground-coupled heat pump technology has been more and more attention and gradually been widely studied and applied in recent years, as an efficient and environmentally friendly energy technology. Horizontal ground slinky-loop heat exchanger is a new type of underground heat exchangers for ground-coupled heat pump technology. It not only has a lot of advantages of traditional ground-coupled heat pump, but also can greatly ease the excessive initial investment and occupied area.Through the establishment of three dimensional mathematical model on horizontal slinky-loop heat exchangers, backfill material and soil by GAMBIT, the thermal performance of horizontal slinky-loop heat exchangers was studied by FLUENT. The factors are analyzed, which influence the thermal performance between horizontal slinky-loop heat exchanger and backfill material and soil, including water velocity, water temperature, backfill materials, burial depth, loop pitch, loop diameter, antifreeze, etc. We can get the variation of thermal performance of horizontal slinky-loop heat exchangers in different conditions. In this paper, two important indicators(the heat transfer per meter length of pipe and the heat transfer per meter length of soil) are used for evaluating the heat transfer performance. The results showed these factors have different degrees of impact for the thermal performance. In the last, the temperature field around the backfill material and soil are analyzed to determine the presence of thermal interference. It is studied that how do loop pitch and loop diameter affect the thermal interference. Some valuable conclusions are obtained, which are useful for research and extension of slinky-loop heat exchangers for ground-coupled heat pumps...
