As the demand of market has become more and more variable, discrete manufacturing with various brands and small batches has been a subject of the manufacturing. However there are many difficulties in data collection and data analysis in the process of discrete manufacturing, which makes the process management even more difficult. This paper takes engine assembling as the example, uses RFID to collect data in production line and data mining to conduct data analysis. Thus the difficulties of data collection and analysis in workshop are solved.First, the paper analyzes specific applications of RFID in manufacturing workshop. It introduces RFID encoding system and infrastructure. Also a multi- layer architecture of RFID data collection is designed and the content of data analysis is studied. Then it takes a deep study of the data collection process. Targets of RFID data collection are introduced, and characteristics of RFID data is analyzed. Further how RFID can store data is analyzed and three layer architecture of RFID data management is established. Also the application of RFID data collection in engine assembling workshop is realized.Secondly, RFID data mining methods are studied. Based on the specific demands of discrete manufacturing workshop, the tasks of data mining are summarized. Methods and processes of data mining are analyzed at first. Then correlation analysis, classfication analysis and outlier analysis which frequently appear in workshop are analyzed, improved and applied. These methods are carried on the practice with verifying through simulation experiments of real data in enterprise. Finally, the application of RFID data collection is introduced. The implementation of data collection and data analysis is expounded in detail. And it makes a comparison of many aspects before and after the implementation of the system. Thus the feasibility and practicability of the study is verified.
