In modern society, with increasingly fierce competition and shortage of resource, an important trend in the development of mechanical equipment is to reduce the weight of equipment so as to improve equipment performance, material utilization and equipment flexibility. In this respect, optimum structural design is a very important technical means to reduce the weight of equipment. Modern optimum structural design adopts scientific and rigorous ideas, and optimizes the structure on the premise of ensuring structural rigidity and strength. Therefore, more reasonable material arrangement and size and shape of structure will be obtained to reduce the weight of structure and increase the maneuverability of structure, which is of great realistic significance. At present, optimum structural design technique has great potential in the design field of chassis because this technique is relatively less applied for chassis. Thus, the popularization and application of optimum structural design will significantly drive the modernization of design work of chassis at present stage.In this paper, as for the problems needed to be solved on maneuverability of chassis, an original model of chassis is first established based on the requirements on basic functions of chassis; then the chassis structure is simplified and its parameterized model is set up; and next, finite element model of chassis is completed through defining material properties and generating mesh.Using the finite element method, in this paper, the shift and stress of chassis under static state and extreme road condition is analyzed; various static performance parameters of chassis are acquired; the influence by each variable on maximum shift and stress of chassis is studied; constraint modal analysis on chassis is conducted; various dynamic performance parameters of chassis are acquired; and the influence by each variable on the results of modal analysis is researched. The research on static and dynamic characteristics provides reference data for following optimum structural design.At last, on the condition of without changing the overall size and Location dimension, the parameterized model of chassis is optimized in structure and size by using optimum design module, optimum design of chassis for each variable and size is completed, and the reliability of optimum results under extreme road condition is verified through the recalculating with modified parameters inputting into the model. After optimizing, the dynamic performance of chassis is improved to some extent, the weight of equipment is reduced, and the design purpose of lightweight is realized.
