Energy problem has become a primal obstacle to economic and social development. Because of the damage on the environment caused by the use of fossil fuels, people began to develop environmental green energy. Wind energy is currently the most promising green energy, and starts to develop rapidly.The rapid development of wind power industry has put forward higher requirements to the wind turbine gearbox. In this article, finite element model of primary planet carrier and gearbox enclosures, which are the important components of wind turbine, are built in ANSYS based on finite element method as well as loads and constraints. Static characteristics are calculated by using ANSYS and the distribution of stress and strain is calculated as well as inherent frequency and mode shape. Functional relation between wind load and angle of fan blade is made, which is used in transient analysis of primary planet carrier as load input. Fatigue analysis is made to determine fatigue life of primary planet carrier. By the static and dynamic analysis of wind turbine gearbox, the mechanical characteristics of wind turbine gearbox are finally determined.During the research, the methods of building FEA model are focused on such as simplification of structure, simulation of joint, simplification of loads. And bring out a practical method for further research of finite element analysis of wind turbine gearbox.
