Vehicle safety performance in frontal impact is an important part of vehicle passive safety, At present, most research works of the front impact crash worthiness are focused on 100% front impact and 40% offset impact, but oblique impact which accounted for large proportion in real traffic accident is seldom studied. The test method of car to barrier impact is adopted by current relevant laws. But the situation of car to car collision that occur between different type of cars is not considered in this test procedure. So it is of a great significance to study the vehicle crash compatibility in car-to-car oblique crash. The main content of this dissertation are shown as following:1. According to traffic accident statistics and the relevant simulation analysis, the FE models of car to car oblique crash between sedan and SUV was then developed with three different impact overlap of 30%, 50% and 70%. Furthermore, a comparative study was carried out in terms of the body structure crash characteristic of each car in oblique impact with different crash overlap, the vehicle crash compatibility is also analyzed in these modes2. In order to identify how to improve the sedan crashworthiness by structural changes, five part sets were defined as design factors based on the force transmission path of frontal impact. The sensitivity of sedan crashworthiness was analyzed in different oblique crash modes.3. Taking sedan in car-to-car oblique crash as research object, the driving area and occupant restraint system model was developed and validated,The method of combining the FE and Multi-body software was used to analyze the injury response of driver in different modes. It is indicated that there exists some difference of two car in term of body deformation and dynamic response between different oblique crash modes. The deformation of two car compartment in 30% oblique impact is most serious. The passenger compartment intrusion of sedan is far more larger than that of SUV. It means there exists serious crash incompatibility between SUV and sedan in oblique crash, and the crash incompatibility becomes more severe with less overlap ratio.when improving the sedan crashworthiness in oblique crash, for passenger compartment, the sensitivity of side force transmission parts to sedan passenger compartment intrusion is more remarkable than that of front force transmission parts;for frontal compartment, the most key factor influencing passenger compartment intrusion is depend on oblique crash mode. The upper frame influences passenger compartment intrusion most in the mode that the front rail is not involved. The frontal frame influences passenger compartment intrusion most in the mode that the front rail is involved. In addition, the sedan impact severity and the crash overlap have large influence on the injury response of head and lower limb in oblique crash. It is also indicated that the driver injury response in 30% crash overlap case is more sensitive to the impact severity and the driver injury response in 70% crash overlap case is the lowest among three crash overlap cases.
