| At present, the Ancient City of Gaizhou has still completely maintained the structure of Ancient City and a large amount of historical and cultural heritages, which is one of the few ancient cities in Northeast China. The Ancient City was a defensive city in the army and government fortress system in the war system of Ming Dynasty, which had an extremely important geographic position in the late Ming Dynasty, and along with Jinzhou Fortress, Fuzhou Fortress and Haizhou Fortress, they formed a land and sea defense system of Liaodong Peninsula along the Yalu River. In addition, it had become the primary trade port of Liaodong Peninsula during the early Ming Dynasty, so the Ancient City of Gaizhou is an area with high historic value. However, due to various reasons such as the local economic development as well as the time relevance of old city protection and disciplinary theory update, it has never had an explicit direction of development, which has aimlessly grown with the development of city and other areas. Up until now, it has accumulated many problems, and for an ancient city in strict sense, its environment quality has reached a status that urgently requires rescue. The concept of ancient city is only a title that exists in name to it.In recent years, with the continuous development of theories in the fields of professional disciplines and the deep interpretation of the concept of authenticity, based on the actual example of renovated ancient cities in other areas, we can see that for the protection and update of the historical landscape of old city, the old city is actually a vivid regional museum, which is the living room of the city that belongs to the people, because the history of a city is not only the history written on paper, but also the history solidified in each space and building of the city. The people of this region are the creators, admirers and participators of this region. From the perspective of architecture, the author made three field trips to the Ancient City of Gaizhou, where the researches, visits and interviews were conducted. In this paper, from the perspective of cultural anthropology, by using the method of contradiction analysis, the author has conducted detailed scientific analysis of the causes of the historic and realistic landscape of the Ancient City of Gaizhou. Based on that, guided by current protection theory, the historic landscape of the Ancient City of Gaizhou is positioned as the landscape of an important military town that reflected the regional customs of Liaodong during the late Ming Dynasty, and the reflected subject by the protection and update of this landscape should be the military defense system during the Ming Dynasty. In the meantime, it is also supported by the landscape pattern of the Ancient City as an important city during the Qing Dynasty, which is based on the update of traditional dwellings in the Ancient City, and appropriate landscape industry is added as the core of overall landscape system. Based on this objective, in accordance with the specific situation of the Ancient City of Gaizhou, four pertinent principles are proposed:demonstration of the whole development process during various historic periods; reservation of the historic imprints and highlighting of the regional characteristics; reasonable innovation based on protection; realization of sustainable development of the ancient city. In this way, it is hoped that the protection and update of the historic landscape of the Ancient City of Gaizhou can be controlled. In addition, the three strategies of the cultural exploration and reflection, the inheritance and evolution of spatial pattern and the space construction are proposed, and the overall directive guidance of the protection and update of the historic landscape of the Ancient City is conducted from big to small and from the macroscopic to medium to microscopic scale. At last, with the Ancient City as the subject, the key issue of implementation is discussed on the four aspects of the overall Ancient City, the space, the architecture and the landscape. In addition, the demonstration design of key space within the Ancient City and the update and inheritance deign of architecture are used to introduce more profound discussions on the topic of the protection and update of the historic landscape of the Ancient City of Gaizhou. |
