Reticulated shell is a widespread spatial structure in the architectural engineering at present. This structure has large-span, light material, beautiful modeling, so it becomes the best choice of gymnasium, movie theater, waiting hall and so on. What's more, reticulated shell becomes the symbol of urban modernization. But construction projects increase along with the growth of the accident frequency. And it's security become a focus issue. The stability behavior is the most important respect of the design of the spherical reticulated shell, especially large-span single-layer spherical reticulated shell. This paper discusses the stability analysis of large-span single-layer spherical geodesic domes. At present, the main research method is nonlinear analysis, and we can get the load-displacement curve. The curve includes much information of the whole stages of the strength and rigidity.This paper not only introduces the history, development and research status of reticulated shell at home and abroad, but also makes a summary of it's development trend and expounds the main research content. We chose the bar system finite element method as the calculation method of reticulated shell. By consulting references, the static analysis formula of spatial articulated element and beam element, and the nonlinear analysis formula of spatial beam element are derived.Based on this theory, an activity center in Shenyang is analyzed by a finite element software ANSYS. The activity center is a large-span single-layer spherical geodesic dome which has a diameter of 80m. Through nonlinear analysis, ANSYS can display the load-displacement curve.Much information like ultimate bearing capacity and post buckling properties can be gotten from the load-displacement curve of some nodes with the biggest displacement. Analyzing the types of unstability and judging the rationality of this reticulated shell according to nonlinear analysis and critical load. This paper makes a summary of the influence factors of stability analysis of reticulated shell. This research is valuable to the study of stability analysis of large-span single-layer spherical geodesic domes.
