This paper focuses on existing conditions that hot asphalt mixture of asphalt pavement used would produce a lot of poisonous and harmful gases in the process of mixing with high temperature, high energy consumption and excessive heating would lead asphalt aging. Cold asphalt mixture has certain advantages in the energy consumption and environmental protection, but the function of mixture is poorer. Through the research and summarize on domestic and foreign technologies, this paper study the performance of intermediate temperature asphalt mixture based on surfactant, and verifies the reliability of the technology by engineering application.Based on performance test of coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, mineral aggregate, asphalt (matrix asphalt and SBS modified asphalt) and additive, the mix ratio of intermediate temperature asphalt mixture is designed, it could set the mineral aggregate gradation and the optimum asphalt content.Through the method of horizontal contrast, this paper research that the cooling effect of intermediate temperature asphalt mixture when adding additives in both Liaohe 90# matrix asphalt and SBS modified asphalt. The performance test of two kinds of asphalt mixture is made when it get the same compaction effect by different dosage of additives. The research shows that under the influence of additives, the cooling amplitude of two kinds of asphalt mixture both could reach above 30? than corresponding asphalt mixture. It also set the optimum content of additives and the compaction temperature of two kinds of asphalt mixture.The pavement performance of intermediate temperature asphalt mixture is researched by comparing with corresponding hot mix asphalt mixture. The test results show that the high-temperature stability, low-temperature stability, water stability and durability of two kind of asphalt mixture are improved to some extent.The analysis of energy saving and economic benefits show that the technology of intermediate temperature asphalt mixture could reduce energy consumption by 20%, emission of air pollutants by above 50%. With keeping the performance of mixture unchanged conditions, the per ton price of asphalt mixture is the same as common hot mix asphalt mixture, and it doesn't increase project cost.Using intermediate temperature asphalt mixture have paved test road. The engineering application and test results show that the new material is very easy to construct, and it could extend construction period, make less pollution, has low energy consumption, has stable performance and good pavement condition etc.
