| The study on the climate-adaptability design of building atrium in the cold area is tocreate a comfort atrium space climate for a dynamic outdoor environment variable coldto meet users’ demands that even in the adverse circumstances the climate indoor cansupport normal activities and their feelings of natural desire. Through the checks andbalances of artificial environment and natural climate, the design of building atrium inthe cold area makes full use of the favorable part in cold climates, and avoids adversepart, with the highest efficiency and lowest energy climate load to achieving the user’scomfort requirements.Paper analyzes the cause of building energy consumption in cold area and the factors ofindoor environment thermal comfort impact. According to the characteristics of coldclimate, I propose that the principles of architectural design in cold area is avoildingdisadvantages while using advantages. Based on the atrium space spatial characteristicsand physical characteristics, we can enhance the buffer adjustment functions of theatrium space in cold area through architectural design tools, such as the proportion andforms of atrium, the enclosed interfaces and the physical environment. And we can getthe points of the main contents of the study on the climate-adaptability design ofbuilding atrium in the cold area are to make the atrium space suitable for cold, enhancethe filtering ability for the interfaces and the ability of passive adjustment.
