Climate always acts as an important element in determining the designing anddeveloping process in the architecture industry. Quality of people’s daily life keepspromoting as time goes by, during this process the judgment towards architecturaldesign tends to be more focus on the spatial comfort which would be relateddirectly to human’s health issue in both physical and mental layer. This criterionacts as the standards in the architecture industry and to some kind replace the oldjudgment which only takes care of the functional and aesthetic of the spaces.Of all climate elements, wind could be one of the most important and has a largeimpact on people’s life. For campus locates in a cold area, the campus square alwaysacts as the ’living room’ for students living there. Without the campus square, therewould be no room for the school to have an open space for the students to havesome outdoor activities. This article based on the optimizing design strategy for thewind environment of the campus square in a cold area to explore how this elementwould affect the external space design. This article would be arranged in the orderbelow.First would discuss in general about how the construction of the college campusdevelops quickly and people’s requirement towards the quality of environmentenhanced enormously. Many schools already begin to consider the relationshipbetween the construction of the campus squares and the wind environment.Summary was given to conclude the current situation on the construction of thecampus square and some principle theories with practice. Then gives acomprehensive summary about the campus squares locates in the northeast Chinawith statistics and research. Analyses were given towards the elements that wouldaffect campus square design. Design principles are given after this process. Thensummarized the prototypes used by nowadays campus squares. Numericalsimulation experiments are given to restitute how the layout, the dimension and theinterface would restrict the effect that wind condition brought towards the squarecampus that locates in the cold area. Physical characteristic were dissected toprovide basis for the next step design. At last, provided principle design strategies include wind barrier, wind directiongradient, wind shrinking yard as the design basis by analyzing the simulatingexperiment. Those design strategies aimed at giving answers to the wind optimizingdesign for campus square locates in cold area. Specific strategies are giving afterthe comparison towards the experimental outcomes.Total number of the words is around54thousands and there are124charts and forms drawn by myself. This paper is supported by the North green architecture project belong to theHeilongjiang Province key technology project, No. GC11T110.
