Diabetes mellitus(DM)is a metabolic disorders disease characterized by high blood sugar, which caused by lacking of insulin secretion or decreased function of islet. Now China has the largest number of diabetes, the number of patients reached 120 million,of which 95%was diabetes mellitus 2(T2DM).Diabetes is a kind of lifelong disease, once people suffer from it,it is hard to cure. Therefore,it is vital to prevent diabetes. The development of related hypoglycemic health products is an important way to prevent diabetes.Yam,Chinese wolfberry and seaweed are three common traditional Chinese medicines. It has been reported that they have good hypoglycemic effect.Besides they have a good help for the various complications caused by diabetes. But seaweed extracts and the combination of them have not been reported. In this paper,Yam,Chinese wolfberry and seaweed extracts are the objects of the study,we determined the active ingredients and study the accessorial hypoglycemic effect of seaweed extracts and the mixture.1.Quantitation analysis of polysaccharides and proteins. The polysaccharides and proteins were determined by phenol sulfuric acid method and Kjeldahl method respectively. The results showed that Yam,Chinese wolfberry, seaweed extracts have rich polysaccharides and proteins,in which polysaccharides is the main hypoglycemic active ingredient. The polysaccharides contents in each compoment were as followed: yam 9.83%,Chinese wolfberry 14.6%,seaweed 7.27%,the extracts mix 10.6%;The protein contents were as followed: yam 3.27%,Chinese wolfberry 5.2%,seaweed 6.2%,and the mix5.7%.2.Confirmation of the hypoglycemic effects of seaweed extracts. The combined high-fat diet(HFD)and streptozotocin(STZ)-induced method was used to establish type 2 diabetes mellitus rats model successfully. After the seaweed extract were administered to the diabetic rats,it was found that the mental conditions of the rats were improved markedly, the body weight loss was weakened, and the hyperglycemic levels of them were reduced by various doses of seaweed extract;the glucose tolerance test(OGTT)demonstrated that seaweed extract could enhance the rats’ abilities in glucose tolerance;seaweed extract could also increase the serum insulin levels and improve the insulin sensitivity. Moreover,by detecting the levels of total glycerin(TG),total cholesterol(TC),nonestesterified fatty acid(NEFA)glycosylated serum protein(GSP),malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(T-SOD)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-PX),we found that seaweed extracts can not only lower the blood sugar levels, but also have regulatory effects on the metabolism disorders of blood lipids and antioxidant capacity in the diabetic rats.3.The hypoglycemic effect of yam, wolfberry and seaweed extracts(1:1:1)was studied. The experimental results show that after adding the yam and the wolfberry to the seaweed extracts, the taste becomes better, and the hypoglycemic effect is still good,in some aspects even better than the seaweed extracts。...
